A late goal by Andre Schurle denied Real Madrid victory with the Germany international securing a 2-2 draw for Thomas Tuchel’s side.
Ronaldo gave the hosts the lead rifling home a low shot after being teed up beautifully by a backheel from Gareth Bale. However, Dortmund continued to threaten and equalised thanks to some dreadful goalkeeping by Keylor Navas. The Costa Rica international made a mess of a free kick, punching it weakly, which came back off Varane and was bundled over the line by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Yet the defender was to make amends in the second half after Karim Benzema’s volley came back off the post and the crossbar the France international was on hand to knock home. However, Dortmund were not to be denied, Schurrle equalising in the 87th minutes with a fine finish to seal a point.

Arsenal cruised to a comprehensive 3-0 win over Chelsea to hand Antonio Conte’s side back-to-back Premier League defeats in the London derby at Emirates Stadium.
A match expected to be a closely contested affair was blown apart in the 11th minute when Alexis Sanchez capitalised on a dreadful error by Gary Cahill to open the scoring on his 100th Arsenal outing.
Theo Walcott – also reaching a milestone in his 350th game for the Gunners – added a quickfire second, crowning a glorious passing move, and there was further attacking brilliance as the influential Mesut Ozil made it 3-0 five minutes before half-time.
A first league win over the Blues since October 2011 moves Arsene Wenger’s team up to third in the table behind Manchester City and Tottenham, who meet next weekend, while Conte has work to do as the early stages of his Chelsea reign veer off course.
Former Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas made his first league start of the season, on the back of a brace in Tuesday’s 4-2 EFL Cup win over Leicester City, but Arsenal swamped their opponents in central areas, while reverting to a back three early in the second period did nothing to restore Chelsea’s poise.
They have added a solitary point after three consecutive wins at the start of the campaign and are now down in eighth, below Crystal Palace on goal difference.
Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla had an early shot pushed to safety by Thibaut Courtois but Chelsea appeared to have settled quickly before a moment to forget from Cahill.
The England centre-back received the ball from Branislav Ivanovic under slight pressure and hesitated before playing an ill-advised and under-hit backpass that Sanchez pounced on to race towards goal and chip home a classy finish.
If the opener was entirely Chelsea’s making, they could do little two minutes and 19 seconds later as Cazorla, Ozil and Alex Iwobi combined in a slick passing move before Walcott converted Hector Bellerin’s low cross.
Willian flashed a drive across goal wide and Eden Hazard had a shot blocked as Chelsea’s creative talents sought a response, but their humiliation continued five minutes before half-time

Crisis? What crisis? At the end of a long week which saw Jose Mourinho come out fighting against the ‘Einsteins’ of the British media, Manchester United bounced back to form with a crushing 4-1 victory over Premier League champions Leicester City.
With Wayne Rooney dropped to the bench, this was a statement result in more ways than one. Not only was this United proving that reports of their demise had been greatly exaggerated, but it was also a demonstration of what they are capable of in the absence of their out-of-form captain slowing the pace of their play in the final third.
Paul Pogba had a major say too, netting his first United goal to cap a five-minute spell which saw the home side net three times as they completely overran Claudio Ranieri’s outfit. The verve, energy and urgency on display following Chris Smalling’s opener from a Daley Blind corner was worthy of the massive half-time lead.
The Frenchman grew into the game after a slow start and had a huge influence on their increased tempo which saw the front four thrive. His clever ball through for Jesse Lingard was flicked to Juan Mata to double United’s lead, then Marcus Rashford pounced after a demoralised Leicester defence had switched off at a short corner.
Pogba’s ability on the ball and marauding gait helped to stretch the Foxes regularly and, by the break, the champions were gasping for air. This was all a far cry from the static, smothered attacking performances which had preceded in the presence of Rooney.

Jose Mourinho never actually used Marcus Rashford’s name when reviewing his injury-time winner against Hull City in the Premier League at the end of August. He referred to him simply as “The Kid”.
But the boy who has quickly become a man during 2016 proved his importance to the Manchester United cause once more on Wednesday by bailing them out of a tight spot to secure a 3-1 win over Northampton Town in the EFL Cup which snapped a three-game losing streak.
Just when Mourinho needed an experienced head on the pitch to guide his side through the choppy waters, the most inspirational contribution came from one of the youngest players in his matchday squad.
The return of Michael Carrick also had a big say in United progressing to the fourth round, with his composure helping them to cause their hosts a number of problems throughout the night, yet it was the 18-year-old who ultimately made the difference.
Carrick had an impact from the start and it was symbolic that United’s opener came from the vice-captain. Wayne Rooney’s indirect free-kick following a backpass offence was blocked but Carrick calmly fired the ball back into the far top corner.
From there United continued to control the pace of the game as Northampton remained on the back foot, but they did gradually begin to take their foot off the pedal as they somehow turned a comfortable position into a frantic struggle. In the 10 minutes before the interval they made it appear that they were the League One team and the Cobblers their esteemed opponents.

Liverpool strolled into the fourth round of the EFL Cup with a 3-0 win over Derby County on Tuesday.
Ragnar Klavan opened the floodgates 24 minutes inito the game as he put Jurgen Klopp’s men in the lead, pouncing on a poor cross and beating the keeper.
Five minutes into the second half, Philippe Coutinho made it 2-0 as he was found in acres of space in the box and fired into the net.
Shortly afterwards, Liverpool added to their lead through Divock Origi, taking on a Coutinho through ball and finishing.

Shinji Okazaki put the champions in command but a superb comeback saw the Blues progress with the midfielder scoring twice after the hosts had been reduced to 10 men

Chelsea recovered from two goals down to beat Leicester 4-2 at the King Power Stadium thanks to two goals in extra-time from Cesc Fabregas.
The visitors’ defence was highly culpable as Shinji Okazaki ended a 13-game goal drought with two first-half goals for the Premier League champions, but two of Antonio Conte’s back four were able to make amends either side of the interval.
Captain Gary Cahill headed home a Fabregas corner in first-half stoppage time before Cesar Azpilicueta – who tried in vain to hack both Okazaki goals off the line – elevated a pulsating match further with a spectacular long-range volley in the 49th minute.
Leicester were forced to play the additional half-hour with 10 men after Marcin Wasilewski struck substitute Diego Costa with a forearm and Chelsea made merry against reduced numbers as Fabregas struck twice inside the opening four minutes of extra-time.
The match took place following conflicting reports of Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich’s displeasure regarding last Friday’s 2-1 loss to Liverpool, meaning Conte’s men turned in a timely showing of character and class.
Marcos Alonso was selected for his Chelsea debut as both managers made seven changes and it was the reshuffled visitors who settled quickest.
Pedro had an early goal chalked off for a marginal offside and Wasilewski breathed easily when referee Robert Madley did not punish him for handling inside the box.
There was a similar sense of relief for Cahill when his pass was intercepted by Okazaki and his subsequent collision with Ahmed Musa in the penalty area went unpunished.
